Wild substitution and its own payout: check whether awards overlap

An all-Wild combination can qualify in more than one description without receiving both payments. If a Wild substitutes for A and also has its own paytable entry, you still need the game's rule for overlapping awards. Counting the same combination twice can inflate an otherwise correct calculation.

The Jili777 slot library contains titles with different Wild behaviour. This guide uses an invented three-reel board to make one question precise: does the rule pay every qualifying interpretation, or only the highest award for a given position combination?

Declare a complete example rule

Our fictional board has three reels with two visible positions each. Every reel shows A on the top position and W on the lower position. A way selects one position from each reel. All three reels must qualify; there are no shorter awards, Scatters, multipliers or bonus triggers.

W substitutes for A. A three-reel A combination pays 4 units, including combinations using substitute W symbols. Three W symbols have a separate 10-unit award. The decisive rule is that each position combination receives only its highest qualifying award. These values and conditions are invented for teaching; they are not a JILI game paytable.

Each reel offers two choices, so there are 2 × 2 × 2 = 8 different position combinations. Identical-looking symbols on different positions would still need position identities; in this particular board, the letters also identify the two positions.

Eight fictional A and W combinations: seven pay four units; WWW pays ten under the highest-award-only rule, making 38 units

Seven combinations receive the 4-unit A award, and WWW receives 10 units. The total is 7 × 4 + 10 = 38 units. There are eight paid combinations, with the all-Wild combination counted once.

A tempting shortcut is to count all eight substitute-A combinations at 4 units and then add the 10-unit Wild award: 8 × 4 + 10 = 42. That calculation pays WWW twice. The four-unit difference is exactly the lower A award that the stated highest-award rule excludes for WWW.

A different rule produces a different answer

If an otherwise identical invented rule explicitly allowed both awards on WWW, then 42 units would be correct. If W had no separate payment and only substituted for A, the total would be 8 × 4 = 32. The same visible symbols can therefore support different totals under different declared conditions.

This is why a screenshot alone cannot establish the amount. Before choosing a calculation, find the wording that governs Wild substitution, Wild's own award and whether overlapping combinations pay together. An absent rule stays unresolved; do not quietly choose the largest total.

The existing Wilds and Scatters guide covers substitutions, exclusions and feature triggers. This worked example adds the separate question of award priority. It does not imply that a Scatter can be substituted or that every Wild pays for itself.

Keep the payout basis separate

The amounts above are units, not pesos. Converting 38 units into currency requires a defined unit value from the actual configuration. A total stake, a line stake and a coin denomination are different bases. The model does not provide a real bet setting, stake deduction or session profit.

Nor do eight potential combinations establish eight independent chances. The combinations share reel positions, and this example specifies no outcome-generation probabilities. It counts a fixed board after the hypothetical symbols are already known. The paylines, ways and clusters explanation helps identify which counting structure a real game uses before any award calculation.

The UK Gambling Commission's RTS 3 calls for understandable winning conditions and payout calculations within its Great Britain scope. That supports making our priority rule explicit. It supplies neither this example's numbers nor a certification of Jili777 or any JILI title.

Record the rule beside the arithmetic

A useful note is “2 × 2 × 2 combinations; W substitutes for A; WWW also qualifies for 10; highest award only per combination; 7 × 4 + 10 = 38 units.” Someone checking the note can reproduce the result and see why 42 was rejected.

When reviewing a real game, use its help screen and applicable paytable for the actual edition. If the overlap wording is unclear, leave the award calculation open rather than treating our fictional rule as the default. The board, enumerated combinations and three alternative totals were checked on 10 October 2026. No real spin, operator configuration or payment was tested for this article.
